Das vergessene Dorf | The forgotten Village

  Auf unserem Flug von Grise Fiord nach Resolute Bay konnten wir sehr gut sehen, wie das Eis während der letzten Tage getaut und aufgebrochen ist. In Resolute Bay angekommen haben wir das Dorf besichtigt und die Statue, die jene aus Grise Fiord ergänzt, besucht. Hier schaut der Inuk-Mann auf die Bucht hinaus und hält nach dem versprochenen Schiff ausschau, das ihn in seine Heimat hätte zurück bringen sollte. Dieses Schiff kam nie. - - - On our flight from Grise Fiord to Resolute Bay we could see very well how the ice has thawed and broken up over the past few days. Arrived in Resolute Bay we toured the village and visited the statue that complements the one from Grise Fiord. Here the Inuk man is looking out over the bay for the promised ship that would have taken him back to his homeland. That ship never came.  

  Ein paar Eindrücke aus Grise Fiord, der nördlichsten dauerhaft bewohnten Gemeinde Kanadas. In Inuktitut, der Sprache der Inuit, heisst diese Ortschaft "Aujuittuq", was 'Land, das niemals taut' bedeutet. Grise Fiord verfügt über ein Denkmal, das den Inuit gewidmet ist, die in den 1950er Jahren von der Regierung dorthin zwangsumgesiedelt wurden. Und vom neben dem Dorf 400m hoch aufragenden Berg hat man eine tolle Aussicht in die Bucht und auf das vereiste Meer. - - - A few impressions from Grise Fiord, Canada's northernmost permanently inhabited community. In Inuktitut, the language of the Inuit, this village is called "Aujuittuq", which means 'land, that never thaws'. Grise Fiord has a memorial dedicated to the Inuit who were forcibly resettled there by the government in the 1950s. And from the 400m high mountain next to the village one has a wonderful view of the bay and the icy sea.
